Mary Ingels Rivera
Mary Ingels Rivera, a Monterey native, died Friday in a Walnut Creek hospital after a brief illness. She was 79.
Mrs. Rivera was born June 6, 1908, in Monterey, where she attended local schools and was active in Denny-Watrous group musical productions before moving to Southern California as a young woman.
Even though she moved from the Peninsula years ago, she frequently returned to visit family members and friends.
A former teacher at Immaculate Heart College in Los Angeles, she had a life-long interest in music and the piano. She promoted the creation of the Community Concert Association of Sunland-Tujunga, a suburban area of Los Angeles. She also accompanied a ballet group on a U.S. tour years ago. Mrs. Rivera moved to Walnut Creek from Tu junga only a few months ago.
She is survived by a son, Juan of Walnut Creek, and a brother, Howard Ingels of Seaside.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at San Carlos Cathedral on Tuesday at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Monterey City Cemetery.
Friends may visit at the El Estero Chapel of Mission Mortuary today from 2 to 5 p.m.
The family suggests that any memorial contributions go to a favorite charity.
