Unit History:
Initially mustered in for 3 months, then agreed to serve 3 years. A portion of the regiment mustered out on November 9, 1864 at the expiration of their term of service. Veterans and recruits of the 18th O.V.I. Were consolidated with detachments from the 1st, 2nd, 24th and 35th to form the 18th O.V.V.I. in Chattanooga, Tennessee, October 1864. Companies A,C and E were recruited from Ironton, Lawrence County; Company B from Marietta, Washington County; Company D from McArthur, Vinton County; Company F from Gallipolis, Gallia County; Company I from Jackson, Jackson County and Company K from Beverly, Washington County.
